Football Boots: Which To Buy?
It is undeniable that sportswear plays an important role in an athlete’s performance – rocket scientists are developing suits that reduce drag, making it easier for swimmers to move faster in water. Advances in bio-acceleration technology have led to the design of compressed sports shirts that reduce muscle fatigue of sportsmen and improve muscle performance. In the football world, advances in footwear over the past decade have taken the world by storm.
Sporting giants such as Nike, Adidas and Puma are outdoing themselves with attempts to come up with the next best pair of football boots – that are eye-catching, lightweight and capable of achieving all sorts of feats while providing maximum speed, comfort, grip, control and protection. To top it all, amazing advertising campaigns and endorsements by professional football stars add to the hype of footwear.
A few examples; the Predator PowerSwerve TRX FG from Adidas promises powerful shots with extra curve, more ball control and yes… better chances of scoring goals, and can be seen on David Beckham and Michael Ballack. The Nike Mercurial Vapor IV – extremely lightweight and ideal for maximum speed, is favoured by players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Theo Walcott. The v1.08 by Puma, worn by Peter Crouch, provides high speed and good control qualities.
With the endless brands and performance enhancing designs to choose from, shopping for your football boots can be a challenging experience! If you play football regularly and don’t mind spending more, there are ample choices similar to the hi-tech ones described above. If you don’t want the fancy designs and technology and prefer something simpler, basic style boots are sufficient – less expensive, good quality and long-lasting. And for those who play football occasionally, you may want to buy a cheaper pair of football boots, such as synthetic plastic uppers. Whatever your preference is, make sure that the boots you pick are comfortable to wear!
Another important aspect when buying football boots, is buying a pair that is suited to the surface that you would play on. For synthetic pitches, Astro turf boots with their multiple rubber studs will give you the best grip. Firm ground boots with longer studs are used mainly for wet conditions and muddy grounds, whilst boots with shorter studs are best worn on dry pitches. Soft ground boots are most suited for grassy surfaces and have screw-in studs which can be removed or changed to different lengths depending on how soft the surface is.
